The world-famous Kulm Hotel St Moritz (www.kulmhotel-stmoritz.ch) has some great golf packages on offer this summer, the highlight of which is a two-day golf clinic with former European Tour and Ryder Cup player Costantino Rocca, one of the game’s most popular and easy-going professionals. Renowned as much for his love of fine wines and gourmet cuisine as he is for his prowess in golf, the Italian will be the consummate host for the Costantino Rocca Golf Clinic, which takes place on 15 and 16 July.
The Clinic will be followed by two pro-am tournaments, the Jubilee Trophy Golf Club St Moritz and the St Moritz Open, in which Rocca will also play, on 17 July and 18 July. These two packages, which are restricted to just 30 guests to ensure maximum enjoyment and a reasonable amount of personal tuition from Rocca, can be booked separately or in combination with each other.
The Costantino Rocca Golf Clinic package costs CHF2,305 (approx £1,580) per person, including three nights’ accommodation, two lunches, two gourmet dinners, one night-cap and the two-day clinic with Rocca, as well as all match and green fees, while the ensuing tournament package costs CHF1,735 (approx £1,190) per person, including three nights’ accommodation, two gourmet dinners, one night-cap, snacks and drinks during the two tournaments, and all match and green fees.
The Kulm Hotel St Moritz has a host of other exciting golf options this summer, ranging from 2-night breaks to week-long packages (such as “Golfing at the Highest Level” from 23 to 30 July that offers the chance to play and compete on three courses: the 9-hole Kulm Golf and 18-hole Zuoz and Samedan courses) and, from 27 August to 3 September, the chance to be taught by Robert Baker, one of the top 100 golf teachers in the United States.
The beauty of golf in St Moritz and the Engadin valley is the dramatic Alpine vistas against which it is played, the fresh mountain air and the deep blue summer skies, for St Moritz enjoys sunshine for an average of 322 days of the year. However, the season is fairly short, with the Kulm Hotel St Moritz open only from 24 June until 4 September 2011, so early booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

NOTES TO EDITORS
Kulm Golf St Moritz
The nine-hole Kulm Golf St Moritz course, first laid out in 1891 (making it the oldest course in Switzerland), meanders harmoniously through the town, past the St Moritz bobsleigh run and the former Olympic Stadium (two winter Olympics have been held on the course, in 1928 and 1948), while enjoying spectacular views over Lake St Moritz.
Lying at a height of 1,860 metres, this demanding par 27 course is among the highest in Europe and was re-laid in 2001 to bring it up to date for the needs of today’s golfers.
In addition to the course, the Club has a practice putting green and a driving range, as well as its own Club restaurant “Chesa al Parc”.
Kulm Hotel St MoritzThe first hotel to be built in St Moritz, the Kulm opened its doors in 1856 and immediately became popular for summer spa and painting holidays, particularly among the British who comprised around 75% of the hotel guests. The owner of the Kulm Hotel, Johannes Badrutt, initiated winter holidays to St Moritz from 1864, when he laid a bet with his last departing summer guests that the local weather was so good they could sun themselves on the hotel’s terrace even in deep December; if not, he would cover the cost of their vacation himself. He won the bet and within two years, the hotel was fully booked with guests staying for the entire winter season. The Kulm Hotel St Moritz can, therefore, take credit for starting the trend for winter sports holidays.
Since the 19th century, the Kulm Hotel has changed considerably through expansion and renovation, but the fabulous location at the heart of St Moritz with views over the Lake remains the same. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the Kulm Hotel has 173 rooms, five restaurants (formal dining, French fine dining awarded 15 points by GaultMillau, Italian, local Engadine specialities and Japanese), the extensive Panorama Spa & Health Club (with 20m indoor pool, various saunas and steam room, a Jacuzzi, a fully-equipped gym and treatment rooms, all with stunning views over Lake St Moritz) and six conference rooms, with capacities ranging from 50 to 500 people.
Entertainment and sports facilities include the 9-hole Kulm Golf Course St Moritz, three tennis courts, a natural ice rink, a curling field and the “Marmotta Club” for children. The Kulm Hotel is inextricably linked to the Cresta Run through the Sunny Bar, where tobogganing pilots have congregated for decades; the walls are lined with trophies and images of famous people who have hurled themselves down the infamous ice track.
