The Irish Cancer Society are looking for your help
John McCormack Chief Executive, The Irish Cancer Society
Last year the Irish Cancer Society raised €513,000 through church gate collections and is indebted to the sheer hard work, dedication and tremendous support of our volunteers who carry out these collections.
All funds raised outside church gates help the Society to maintain and grow our vital free nationwide information and support services for people with cancer and their families at every stage of the cancer journey.
Did you know...
Ireland’s cancer rate is one of the highest in the world. One in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer during our life time and it is estimated that by 2020, 43,000 new cases will be diagnosed each year. These stark figures mean that there is an ever increasing demand for the direct patient care services provided by the Irish Cancer Society.
Funds raised through church gate collection go towards the following patient care services;
·National Cancer Helpline (Freefone 1800 200 700) - in 2010 the Irish Cancer Society specialist cancer nurses supported over 21,000 callers to the National Cancer Helpline.
·Night nursing – in 2010 the Society’s night nurses provided 7,200 nights of care to almost 2,000 families who were looking after someone at the advanced stage of a cancer illness at home.
·Oncology liaison nurses – in 2010 the Society funded 16 Oncology Liaison Nurses in hospitals across the country to the value of €500,000.
·Financial aid – In 2010 the Society provided financial aid to people diagnosed with cancer to the value of over €900,000.
· Daffodil Centres – In 2009, the Irish Cancer Society opened its first Daffodil Centre in Galway University Hospital and a second one in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 in 2010. The Daffodil Centres provide information, advice and support to all those concerned or affected by cancer in the Hospital.
We need your help…
Given the ever increasing incidence of cancer and the pressure on our patient care services, these services have to continue to grow especially during these difficult economic times. The income raised through church gate collections has however decreased in recent years and the need for volunteer collectors is greater then ever.
We really need YOU to join our church gate volunteer collectors team. If you are interested in coming on board, please contact us on CallSave 1850 60 60 60.
Thank you for your time. Together, we can make a difference.
